Competing With Online Piracy

As technology increases and the average speed of internet access in Australian households improves, so does the practice of movie and music piracy. It's no secret that this is perceived as a huge issue for producers of original content, but how does one quantify the extent of the real damage done to our home-grown artists and publishers? And how can we combat this threat to our local industries? It seems that the reaction of companies both in Australia and oversees has been to fight piracy through litigation and legal intimidation, but this has had little to no effect on the number of people illegally accessing content online. The problem is simply that being able to access any content at any time is an extremely attractive proposition for most people. Only by competing with this model will content producers and entire industries regain control over the distribution of their products.
